01 A GUIDE WITH A JOB TO DO
Used-car advice gets useful when it is specific. Each Carwise report is built around one model, year range, and engine—not a generic checklist for every car on the lot.
What tends to go wrong on this year range and engine, grounded in hands-on repair experience.
Where to look, what to listen for, and which questions to ask while you are with the car.
Warning signs that call for a closer professional inspection—or a better car.
A guide helps you know what to ask about. It is not a diagnosis of the specific vehicle.
02 HOW TO USE IT
Bring the guide along when you visit the car. Use it to focus your walk-around, ask better questions about service history, and decide when a mechanic should take a closer look.
Tell us what you are shopping forConfirm the year range and engine code before you open the guide.
Know which areas deserve time during the walk-around and drive.
Ask for a professional inspection—or walk when a warning is serious.
03 FIRST ON THE BENCH
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner buyer guide is Carwise’s first planned report and is currently in development. Its findings will be verified before publication.

04 A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
What to expect from an independent buyer’s guide.
No. A guide gives you model-specific things to look for. It cannot diagnose the individual car you are viewing, and it does not replace an independent pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic.
Each guide is made for a defined model, year range, and engine or powertrain. Check that the vehicle you are shopping for matches the guide before relying on its checklist.
The planned price is $9–$19 per report, depending on the vehicle guide. The first guide is still in development; request a vehicle to help the owner plan future reports.
YOUR NEXT CAR STARTS WITH A QUESTION
Tell us the make, model, year, engine, and where to reach you. The owner reviews each request while preparing future guides.
